Softball Takes Two From Hamilton on Friday

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team picked up another conference sweep with two five-run games against visiting Hamilton on Friday.

The Polar Bears are 23-6 with a 9-5 NESCAC record. The Continentals are 7-20 overall (0-12 NESCAC). Bowdoin won game one 5-2 and held on to win game two 5-4.

Game One Highlights

  • Bowdoin got on the board in the first inning with an RBI single to right center off the bat of Maddie Paschke.
  • Hamilton tied the game in the second with an infield single and took the lead in the fourth off an error.
  • Bowdoin took the lead in the bottom half of the fourth and would not allow Hamilton another run. Anika Ewert hit an RBI single, Penelope Fong-Picariello had a two-run double, and Paschke hit a triple that plated Fong-Picariello.
  • Despite allowing 12 hits in seven innings, Maddie Current allowed only on earned run with no walks and three strikeouts.
  • Ewert, Paschke, and Kaitlyn Fado all went 2-for-3.

Game Two Highlights

  • Bowdoin scored three in the first inning to take a quick lead. Paschke singled down the left field line for an RBI and Liv Barrett drew a bases-loaded walk. Elise Siciliano hit a sacrifice fly to right.
  • Hamilton cut the lead to one with a two-run single to left in the fourth.
  • The Polar Bears extended their lead in the sixth with RBI single from Baylie Wong and Chloe Garcia.
  • The Continentals nearly tied the game, making it 5-4 in the seventh, off a two-run double to right center. The Polar Bears ended the game with a groundout to record the third out and earn the win.
  • Ava Biasotti earned the win with four innings of work and six hits and two runs. Sophia Hahn pitched the final three innings with two hits and two runs.
  • Ewert went 3-for-4 and Wong went 2-for-3.
