MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Bowdoin baseball team saw its season come to an end after dropping a three-game NESCAC quarterfinal series at Middlebury.
The Polar Bears won the first game of day’s doubleheader with an 8-5 victory, forcing game three. Bowdoin nearly completed a massive comeback in game two’s 16-10 loss. The Panthers advance with a 21-13 record. Bowdoin ends the year at 16-21.
Game One Highlights
- Bowdoin broke through in the top of the third. Will Logue sent a three-run blast over the left field fence. Lukas Tsai later added an RBI single before the Panthers could retire the side.
- Middlebury answered in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run single to right.
- Logue added two more RBI in the fourth, tripling to right and making it 6-2.
- The Panthers kept the game close with two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth.
- Leading by one, Bowdoin put two more runs on the board to cap the game at 8-5.
- Logue went 3-for-5 with five RBI and pitched 2.2 innings.
- Will Cooke and Wim Nook both had a pair of hits in the game.
Game Two Highlights
- The game got away from Bowdoin quickly as the Panthers scored three runs in the first inning.
- Middlebury put two more runs on the board in the fourth and exploded for six runs in the seventh, ending the frame up 16-0.
- Bowdoin rallied for ten runs in the ninth inning to put the Panthers on their heels.
- Ryan Jaillet scored Bowdoin’s first run on a wild pitch. Steven Varga plated two more runs with a double down the left field line.
- Cal Thompson added a sacrifice fly and Lukas Tsai hit a two-run double. Tsai later scored on a balk.
- Varga hit his second double of the inning to close out the inning, driving in three more runs.
- Tsai went 4-for-5 and Varga went 2-for-2.
- Bowdoin used eight pitchers who combined for 19 hits and 12 earned runs.
