Softball Drops NCAA Regional Opener to Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Bowdoin softball team dropped its regional opener to host Moravian 6-2 on Thursday afternoon.

The Polar Bears (27-10) scored early but could not rally against the Greyhounds (33-10) down the stretch.

Game Highlights

  • Bowdoin scored first with an RBI groundout by Penelope Fong-Picariello in the first inning. Elise Siciliano scored on the play to make it 1-0.
  • Moravian answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning. A two-run single up the middle gave the Greyhounds the lead and they followed up with an RBI double and RBI single.
  • Ellie Sullivan put down a sacrifice bunt in the second inning to cut the lead in half.
  • Kyra Holtje put the game away with a two-run blast to center in the fourth.

By The Numbers

  • Five Polar Bears had hits in the game with Sammie Wright being the lone player with a multi-hit day.
  • Wright and Kaitlyn Fado both had stolen bases.
  • Sullivan hit a two-out triple in the fourth.
  • Maddie Current suffered the loss with three runs allowed in .2 innings of work.
  • Kathleen Hester put 4.1 innings in on the rubber with four hits allowed and a pair of runs. Sophia Hahn closed out the final inning.
