Midcoast Senior College Announces 2026 Summer Wisdom Speaker Series

Free Community Lecture Series Returns to Brunswick This May

Brunswick, Maine — Midcoast Senior College is pleased to announce its Summer Wisdom Speaker Series 2026, a four-part lecture series held on Tuesdays throughout May. Sponsored by Thornton Oaks Retirement Community, the series is free and open to the public.

All sessions will take place from 1:00–2:00 PM (doors open at 12:30 PM) at Brunswick United Methodist Church.

This year’s lineup features a distinguished group of speakers offering insights into foreign policy, history, storytelling, and American government:

  • May 5 – Larry Butler
    “Foreign Policy FAFO or ‘Larry’s Law of Unintended Consequences in International Interventions’”
    Ambassador Butler brings 40 years of diplomatic experience, including service in 12 
    countries and on President Clinton’s National Security Council staff.
  • May 12 – Eben Miller
    “Mary Heuston: A Black Freedom Story in Bath-Brunswick, Maine 1850”
    Dr. Miller, a professor and department chair at Southern Maine Community College, 
    explores a compelling local history of freedom and resilience.
  • May 19 – Cheryl Hamilton
    “All Stories Lead Back to Lewiston: Personal Narrative Through Storytelling”
    An award-winning storyteller and founder of Stellar Story Company, Hamilton shares the power of personal narrative and community connection.
  • May 26 – Andrew Rudalevige
    “The New, New Imperial Presidency”
    Dr. Rudalevige, the Thomas Brackett Reed Professor of Government at Bowdoin College, examines the evolving scope of presidential power.
