HARTFORD, Conn. – The Bowdoin College Field Hockey squad won its fourth-consecutive game with a 2-0 shutout at Trinity on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears elevate to 8-2 overall (4-2 NESCAC) as the Bantams fall to 5-6 overall (1-6 NESCAC).
Game Highlights
- Bowdoin controlled the pace early and found the back of the goal on its sixth shot of the day, with Hannah Balmelli burying a shot in a crowd 10:04 into the contest with Maddie Mrva earning the assist for a 1-0 advantage.
- The Polar Bears went into halftime ahead 12-3 in shots, 7-1 in shots on goal and held a 4-3 corner edge.
- The offense slowed down for both teams in the second half, although Ella Davies netted her first goal of the season at the 49:13 mark with Charlotte Crawford tallying the assist.
- Trinity had a late push in the final stanza, outshooting the visitors 4-1 and holding a 3-1 advantage in penalty corners, but could not find the back of the net for the 2-0 loss
By The Numbers
- First year goalkeeper Ella Cherenek made her first start for the Polar Bears, combining with Eva Filipponi also appearing in goal for the combined shutout as Cherenek made the lone save in the contest. Bowdoin now has seven shutouts on the season, including four in a row.
- Balmelli now leads the team with nine goals this season and four game-winning goals as Crawford earned her team-leading seventh assist.
