Bobcats Pin Series Setback on Baseball

LEWISTON, Maine – The Bowdoin baseball team suffered a series sweep after losing both Saturday games at Bates by 2-1 and 10-1 margins.

The Polar Bears slip to 9-11 (2-4 NESCAC). The Bobcats climb to 15-3 (4-2 NESCAC).

Game One Highlights

  • Bates scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the first after Jack Margiloff walked and the offending pitch skittered to the backstop and allowed Keagan Ryan to score.
  • Bowdoin tied the game in the fourth inning with the bases loaded. Will Bordes chipped a shot to the shortstop who made an error and allowed Will Cooke to score from third.
  • The game-winning run for Bates came in the fifth inning off an RBI single down the left field line.
  • Bordes went 2-for-3 at the plate and Henry Bibeau was the only other Polar Bear to record a hit.
  • Jackson Melendy went four innings on the mound with one hit allowed, five walks, and six strikeouts. Bordes pitched the final two innings and allowed one hit and one strikeout.

Game Two Highlights

  • Bates scored in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead and Liam Foley drew a bases-loaded hit by pitch to even the game in the third.
  • The game got out of hand in the bottom half of the third as Bates scored eight runs.
  • The Bobcats added a final run in the seventh inning.
  • Ryan Jaillet and Conor Moriarty both had hits in the game.
  • The Bowdoin pitching staff surrendered nine hits and just two earned runs off four fielding errors.
