Bowdoin Wins Weather-Shortened Game Against Wisconsin-River Falls

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Bowdoin softball remained perfect with a 7-4 win over Wisconsin-River Falls on Monday.

Bowdoin is a perfect 9-0 after a single Monday game with game two against SUNY Old Westbury cancelled due to weather. The game against the Falcons (1-2) was called in the sixth inning due to lightning.

Game Highlights

  • Both teams scored in the first inning. Bowdoin opened the game with an Anika Ewert single to shortstop and quick steal of second. Penelope Fong-Picariello plated Ewert with a single through the right side.
  • Bowdoin scored two more in the top of the second off Kaitlyn Fado’s RBI fielder’s choice and Ewert’s triple. The Falcons made it 3-2 in the bottom half of the inning off an RBI single through the right.
  • Bowdoin extended its lead in the third. Elise Siciliano tagged a ground-rule RBI double to left and Chloe Garcia added a two-run triple to right. Rosie Panenka plated Garcia with a chopper to shortstop.
  • Wisconsin-River Falls got a run in both the third and fifth innings but could not close the gap before the game was ended due to weather.

By The Numbers

  • Ewert went 2-for-3. Fong-Picariello, Siciliano, Garcia, and Panenka all recorded hits.
  • Maddie Current earned the win in the circle with a pair of strikeouts and six hits allowed.
  • Ewert and Fado both had a stolen base.
