Atlantic Federal Credit Union Foundation Donates $10,000 and Hygiene Kits to Maine Needs

South Portland, ME – Atlantic Federal Credit Union Foundation has awarded a $10,000 grant to Maine Needs and delivered more than 220 hygiene kits to help meet a sharp seasonal increase in requests for basic self-care items across Maine.

This time of year, Maine Needs fills between 200 and 400 requests per day for hygiene and self-care kits, its biggest need heading into the winter and holiday season. The kits include essentials such as soap, lotion, deodorant, toothpaste, and shampoo, helping individuals and families facing hardship maintain health and dignity. To date, the community has created and donated 110,664 essential kits, including mini warmth kits, cleaning kits, and kits for mothers in need of a moment’s rest.

“What humbles me most is the level of participation from our staff and their commitment to serving and helping others ‘Do Better’ this holiday season,” said Chris Perry, Atlantic Federal Credit Union VP of Business Development and leader of the Atlantic Community Engagement crew. “Knowing that these kits will help Maine Needs respond to hundreds of daily requests makes this effort especially meaningful.”

Maine Needs supports long-time Maine families, newly arrived immigrant families, those fleeing domestic violence, those leaving incarceration, those in recovery, veterans, and those who are unhoused, newly housed, or experiencing financial hardship. The organization partners with schools, caseworkers, and community organizations to connect essential items directly with people who need them most.
