BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men’s lacrosse team used an 11-1 run to coast to a 13-10 road win at Bates on Wednesday evening. The second-ranked Polar Bears improve to 9-0 (6-0 NESCAC) while the Bobcats fall to 7-3 (3-3 NESCAC).
Game Highlights
- Bates came out firing, taking a 4-1 lead in the first 11:31 of the game
- The Bowdoin defense stepped up from there, holding the Bobcats to a single goal over the next 41:45, completely dominating the hosts for the second and third quarters to pull away.
- Bowdoin had closed the gap to 4-3 by the end of the first quarter and then scored four times – two coming from Sam Raye-Steiner – to take a 7-4 edge at the break.
- Bates was able to cut the lead to 7-5 shortly after intermission, but Chris Berry sparked a 5-0 run, capped by two more goals from Raye-Steiner, as the Polar Bears opened up a seven goal lead midway through the fourth quarter.
- Bates scored four times in the final 1:56 to close the final margin to three goals.
By The Numbers
- Chris Berry had a six-point night, scoring twice and adding four assists with two caused turnovers for Bowdoin.
- Sam Raye-Steiner paced the team with five goals in the victory with Nico Schermer and Cormac Walsh scoring two apiece.
- Defensively Alec Delgado was excellent, making 14 saves while Luke Bernasek had two caused turnovers and four ground balls.
