BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women’s tennis team earned a pair of wins on a busy Saturday at Maine Pines, defeating Bates (7-0) and Brandeis (6-1) in its first action since spring break.
The wins move the Polar Bears, ranked tenth in the latest Division III poll, improve to 5-3 on the season.
Bates Match Highlights
- Bowdoin dispatched the Bobcats, not losing a single set across nine matches.
- The Polar Bears swept doubles, with Bella Hartung/Zoe Sun (6-0), Cara Hung/ Suzanne Pogorelec (6-2), and Caroline Stuhlfaut/Naomi Williams (6-2) to take a 1-0 advantage.
- Hartung, Julia Ross, Marie Frati, Willow Assante-LaBash, Williams, and Lila Moldenhauer all earned straight-set victories to wrap up the shutout.
Brandeis Match Highlights
- The Polar Bears prevailed in a tighter match against the Judges, rolling to a 6-1 victory.
- Bowdoin won two of three doubles match-ups to take a 1-0 edge courtesy of Hung/Pogorelec (6-1) and Stuhlfaut/Williams (7-5)
- Straight-set wins from Pogorelec, Sun, Hartung, and Ross pushed Bowdoin over the top. Hung also earned a win, taking it in three sets to wrap the Polar Bear victories.
Up Next
Bowdoin will travel to Pennsylvania next weekend to play UAA schools Emory (Saturday) and Carnegie Mellon (Sunday) in Pittsburgh.
