Softball Sweeps Beavers In Tuesday Maine Matchup

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team cleaned up on Tuesday evening with a doubleheader sweep of visiting University of Maine-Farmington.

The Polar Bears climb to 13-2 after a 3-1 victory in game one and 11-4 win in game two. The Beavers drop to 2-8.

Game One Highlights

  • Anika Ewert got Bowdoin rolling with an inside the park homerun to lead off the first. Maddie Paschke added an RBI groundout to make it 2-0.
  • Rosie Panenka’s third inning RBI single to center gave the Polar Bears a 3-0 lead.
  • Lisa Truchin spoiled the shutout game when she doubled to center and plated a runner.
  • Ewert went 2-for-3 and Kaitlyn Fado hit 2-for-4.
  • Maddie Current started the game and pitched five innings with one hit allowed and four strikeouts.
  • Ava Biassoti pitched the final two innings and allowed one run off three hits with a strikeout.

Game Two Highlights

  • The Beavers took a 3-0 lead to open the game. Bowdoin answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the first.
  • Fado tied the game in the second with an RBI single to center.
  • UMF regained the lead in the fourth as Reilly Russell hit a bomb to straight away center field.
  • Bowdoin took its first lead of the game in the fourth on RBI singles from Hannah Murray and Ewert.
  • The Polar Bears posted a four-run fifth. Margaret Flanery-Goodman, Chloe GarciaHannah Murray, and Fado all drove in runs. Garcia tagged a double.
  • Bowdoin scored two more runs in the sixth inning to push the score to 11-4.
  • Ewert, Penelope Fong-Picariello, Flannery-Goodman, Garcia, Baylie WongHannah Murray, and Fado all had multi-hit games.
  • Sophia Hahn started the game for Bowdoin and allowed six hits. Kathleen Hester earned the win with 3.2 innings of work and one hit allowed, while fanning four.
