WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Bowdoin College baseball team finished off its Florida trip with a pair of wins Thursday, closing their southern swing with a 5-4 mark to move to 6-6 overall this spring. The Polar Bears earned a 5-4 win over Wisconsin-La Crosse on Tuesday, and two victories on Thursday over Wisconsin-Eau Claire (6-1) and William Paterson University (10-5).
Wisconsin-La Crosse Highlights
- Bowdoin jumped out to a 4-0 lead and held off a late rally to defeat UW-La Crosse 5-4 on Tuesday afternoon.
- Conor Moriarty delivered the big blow, a three-run homer in the fourth inning, while Rueben Siegel had a pair of hits.
- Will Bordes was the last of six pitchers for Bowdoin and tossed the final three innings to earn the win, striking out seven.
Wisconsin-Eau Claire Highlights
- Bowdoin scored the first six runs of the game as five different Polar Bears drove in runs in the victory.
- The Polar Bears scored twice in the sixth and three times in the eighth on extra base hits from Will Cooke and Will Bordes to seal the win.
- Will Logue got the win in relief, tossing five strong innings, striking out four and allowing one earned run on three hits.
William Paterson Highlights
- Trailing early, the Bowdoin bats scored multiple runs in four different innings to pull away for a win over William Paterson in their final game in Florida.
- Wim Nook had a two-run single in the second to tie the game at 2-2.
- Trailing 5-4 in the fifth, Nook drove home the game-tying run to tie the contest again. Liam Foley delivered three RBI in the final three innings and Will Cook had a two-run triple to give Bowdoin the lead for good.
- Jeremiah Chessie scattered nine hits and five earned runs in a no decision before Jake Kavanaugh pitched a scoreless 1.2 to earn the win in relief. Sam Sacerdote got the save with three strikeouts in the final 2.1 frames.
