BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men’s lacrosse team outscored Williams 10-3 in the second half, pulling away for a 17-7 win over the Ephs on Saturday afternoon at Whittier Field. The Polar Bears improve to 4-0 (3-0 NESCAC) while the Ephs fall to 3-2 (1-2 NESCAC).
Game Highlights
- Bowdoin outshot Williams 34-12 in the opening half, but converted on only seven of those shots to take a 7-4 edge at the break.
- Holding a slim 4-3 lead with five minutes left in the second quarter, Bowdoin finished the half on a 3-1 surge, getting goals from Sam Raye-Steiner, Casey Ryan, and Chris Berry, to take the three-goal lead at intermission.
- Bowdoin took complete control in the third quarter, scoring six times to pull away. Alex Byrne got the run started with a goal just 32 seconds into the frame, as six different Polar Bears found the back of the net, extending the lead to 13-5 entering the fourth.
- Chris Berry scored twice in a four-goal fourth quarter for the Polar Bears that sealed the win.
By The Numbers
- Berry scored six goals and added an assist while Casey Ryan totaled three goals and dished out five assists to pace the Polar Bear attack.
- Nico Schermer had a goal and a team-best four ground balls while Cam Wietfeldt (8-14) and Alex Choi (7-13) controlled faceoffs for Bowdoin.
- The Polar Bear defense was stout, forcing 21 turnovers and allowing just three second half goals as Alec Delgado made 12 saves in 56 minutes of action.
- Bowdoin owned a 57-27 edge in shots (35-19 on goal) and committed just 12 turnovers in the victory.
