Baseball Shuts Out UMF in 2-0 Victory at Home

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin baseball team picked up its first win of the season in a 2-0 victory over visiting UMaine-Farmington on Sunday afternoon.

Then Polar Bears are 1-2 and the Beavers sit at 0-3.

Game Highlights

  • Both teams put runners in scoring position during the first and second innings, but neither team could convert.
  • Hugh Devine came in to pitch the top of the fourth and was relieved by Will Logue in the fifth, Sam Sacerdote in the eighth, and Will Bordes in the ninth. The four pitchers combined for 18 straight retired batters without a baserunner.
  • Bowdoin broke the stalemate in the seventh inning with a Will Bordes solo shot over the left field fence.
  • Tommy O’Donnell knocked a single to left and Reuben Siegel came in to pinch run. Siegel stole second and third, eventually scoring on a Will Cooke single to left center.
  • Bordes pitched the final inning and allowed a two out single, but struck out Tyler Rosa to end the game.

By The Numbers

  • Jeremiah Chessie got the start on the mound with three innings of work and two hits allowed with a pair of strikeouts.
  • Devine had one strikeout in one inning of work, while Logue fanned two over three innings and Sacerdote did the same in one. Bordes struck out one batter and allowed one hit.
  • Bowdoin’s pitching staff did not allow a walk.
  • Jameson Bloch pitched 6.2 innings for Farmington and allowed seven hits with a pair of K’s.
  • O’Donnell went 2-for-3 at the plate and Cooke was 2-for-2.
