BRUNSWICK, Maine – Bowdoin College women’s tennis standouts Caroline Stuhlfaut and Zoe Sun will compete against the nation’s top Division III doubles teams this weekend at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup, scheduled for October 15-18 at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia.
The Polar Bear duo will open tournament play on Thursday, October 15, at 5:00 p.m. against second-seeded Bell Zhou and Rebecca Kong of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Stuhlfaut and Sun earned their spot in the national championship field by capturing the ITA New England Regional doubles title earlier this month on their home courts in Brunswick. Seeded sixth in the regional tournament, the Bowdoin tandem won five matches en route to the championship, including a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Sophia Yang and Claire Zhou of MIT in the title match.
With the victory, Stuhlfaut and Sun became just the second Bowdoin doubles team to capture the ITA New England Regional championship, joining Jamilah Karah and Cara Hung, who accomplished the feat in 2022.
The ITA Cup brings together the nation’s elite collegiate singles and doubles players from NCAA Division III, NAIA and junior college programs. Competitors qualify through regional championship events held across the country, with each division competing in separate draws for national titles.
Competition begins Thursday and continues through Sunday, October 18, with the Division III doubles championship on the line. The tournament features a compass draw format that guarantees each participating team at least three matches.
