ARLINGTON, Va. – The Bowdoin College women’s soccer team battled unbeaten Batten University in a neutral-site match at Long Bridge Park on Sunday afternoon, falling 2-0.
The Polar Bears (4-6-0) stayed within a goal for nearly 80 minutes against the Marlins (8-0-2), who scored late in the opening half before adding an insurance tally in the 79th minute.
Game Highlights
- Bowdoin generated a pair of early opportunities, including a Kendall Hacker attempt that struck the crossbar in the 12th minute. Anna Lenschow put Bowdoin’s first shot on goal in the 39th minute, but Batten goalkeeper Allie Greco made the save.
- Batten broke the scoreless tie at 40:29 when Ariana Lozier scored off an assist from Courtney Mills, giving the Marlins a 1-0 advantage at intermission.
- Bowdoin pushed for the equalizer after halftime and remained within striking distance until Batten doubled its advantage at 78:47 on an unassisted goal from Alaina Alston.
- The Polar Bears continued to press despite the two-goal deficit and came agonizingly close twice in quick succession. Hacker hit the crossbar in the 82nd minute before Lenschow struck the woodwork less than a minute later. Dani Musry put Bowdoin’s final attempt on target in the 90th minute, forcing a save from Greco.
