Rotary Club of Brunswick Coastal Says Farewell

On Wednesday evening May 20 th the Rotary Club of Brunswick Coastal chartered on October 12,
1990 held a farewell celebration at the Brunswick Hotel. Club members, past members, district
leaders and friends remembered over 35 years of successful and life changing international and
local community service. Long term Brunswick Coastal Rotarian Tom Cole acted as MC and
outlined the many projects that Brunswick Coastal has accomplished, including funding an AIDS
hospice unit at a South African hospital, several water projects in Uganda and Burundi, and
more recently the purchase of an ambulance for a women’s hospital in Burundi. Past and
current members related their “Rotary moments” including those experienced by the many
club members who worked on our projects in Africa under Rotary Foundation “individual
grants”. The club has balanced our international projects with work contributing to the local
community including the Brunswick Area Teen Center, Oasis Free Clinic, MidCoast Hunger
Prevention Project and Tedford Housing. In April 2026 club members voted to surrender our
club charter due to decreasing membership. Several of our members will continue involvement
with Rotary through membership in another area Rotary club.
