BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team won two non-conference games at the University of New England on Wednesday evening.
The Polar Bears climb to 25-6 and drop the Nor’Easters to 12-18. Bowdoin won game one by a 6-2 margin and capped the day with a 6-3 game two victory.
Game One Highlights
- Margaret Flannery-Goodman tripled in the first inning to drive in Baylie Wong and put Bowdoin on the board.
- Kaitlyn Fado made it 2-0 in the second with an RBI double to left center.
- UNE got on the board in the third, capitalizing on a single and error.
- Bowdoin pushed the score to 3-1 in the fourth with Callie Smith’s sacrifice fly. The Nor’Easters answered with an RBI double in the bottom half of the inning.
- Bowdoin scored three straight in the fifth with RBI from Wong, Flannery-Goodman, and Elise Siciliano.
- Wong went 2-for-3 on the day. Chloe Garcia went 3-for-3.
- Maddie Current pitched her tenth win of the season and allowed just two runs on six hits with six strikeouts.
Game Two Highlights
- Bowdoin scored a run in the first, third, and fifth innings. This scoring came off an error in the first, a Flannery-Goodman triple in the third, and a Siciliano double in the fifth.
- UNE tied the game with a three-run fifth inning.
- Bowdoin put the game out of reach with five runs in the top of the seventh. Wong had an RBI single. Flannery-Goodman had another extra-base hit to left center. Hannah Murray put the ball in play and allowed Callie Smith to score. Penelope Fong-Picariello sent a ball to center and a pair of runners scored.
- Kathleen Hester went seven innings and allowed six hits and three runs. Hester fanned six batters.
- Ewert went 5-for-5. Wong, Flannery-Goodman, and Siciliano all went 2-for-4.
