Sea Dogs fall to Trenton 9-4 on a Field of Dreams Sunday

J.C. Linares extends his season-high hitting streak to 12

(Portland, Maine) - The Portland Sea Dogs celebrated their annual Field of Dreams day at Hadlock Field, but the visiting Thunder captured an 9-4 win on Sunday afternoon in front of a sellout crowd of 7,368 fans.

 

LHP Nik Turley (11-8) tossed five innings on seven hits and two runs to earn the win. Lefty Henry Owens (3-1) suffered his first Double-A loss in his final start of the season. Owens allowed six hits, three runs, one walk and fanned eight over 5.2 IP.

 

Trenton began the scoring with two solo-homers off Owens in the first. Ramon Flores blasted a one-out homer to right and Gary Sanchez cleared the Monster with two gone. Owens yielded a run-scoring double to Ben Gamel in the fifth.

 

The Sea Dogs scored two runs in the fifth inning off Turley. Michael Almanzar drove in his team-leading 81st run with a sacrifice fly. Travis Shaw followed with a run-scoring infield single.

 

Miguel Celestino struggled in his last appearance of the season, giving up five runs on four hits over 1+ innings. Reegie Corona gave the visitors a 5-2 lead with a two-run homer to right field. After a Sanchez sacrifice fly, Kyle Roller extended the lead to 8-2 with a two-run double.

 

Gamel had three hits for the Thunder, including a solo-homer off Matt Maloney in the eighth, his first Double-A home run.

 

Portland added two runs in their final at-bat on Derrik Gibson's RBI single and a bases-loaded walk to Garin Cecchini. The 'Dogs left a season-high 17 runners on base.

The Sea Dogs and Trenton Thunder (Yankees affiliate) conclude the regular season on Monday afternoon at Hadlock Field. RHP Jeremy Kehrt (2-3, 4.33) takes on RHP Scottie Allen (2-0, 1.59) in game five of the series.
