Sea Dogs Game Recap-August 19th (Portland 3 New Hampshire 2)

Almanzar and Spring each with two hits

(Portland, Maine) - Lefty Chris Hernandez (1-0) pitched a career-high eight innings on seven hits and two runs, leading the Portland Sea Dogs (61-66) to a 3-2 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (62-64) on Monday night at Hadlock Field.  Portland has won two straight and trail the Fisher Cats by a 1.5 games for third place in the Eastern Division.


Derrik Gibson knocked home the game-winning run with a fielder's choice in the sixth, snapping a 2-2 tie.  Gibson put the ball in play on a ½ swing on a 1-2 pitch from losing pitcher Randy Boone (3-2). 


Hernandez picked up his first win since May 26th at Louisville as a member of the Pawtucket Red Sox.  The lefty scattered seven hits, two runs, one walk three strikeouts. 


RHP Noe Ramirez picked up his third save of the season working a scoreless ninth on one hit and a strikeout.


New Hampshire took a 1-0 lead on a run-scoring groundout by Adam Loewen in the fourth.  Portland grabbed a 2-0 lead in the next half inning on third consecutive errors, with Michael Almanzar picking up an RBI. Loewen tied the game in the sixth on a run-scoring single.


Matt Spring and Almanzar each had two of Portland's six hits.

The Sea Dogs and New Hampshire Fisher Cats continue their three-game series on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field.  RHP Terry Doyle (1-4, 3.59) faces off against RHP Deck McGuire (8-9, 5.00), who makes his 25th appearance.
