Cirque du Soleil’s VAREKAI is a MUST SEE by Linda Perry and Charles Crosby

The Cryer had the opportunity to go behind the scenes to meet some of the gymnasts, performers, set and costume designers and production crew before the opening of Varekai at the Cross Insurance Arena (former Cumberland County Civic Center) in Portland on Wednesday evening. The media tour started out with the viewing of the Russian swing rehearsals with the more than a dozen gymnasts out of costume. This was awesome and joyful to watch up close. The Russian swing set is just one of the many you will see when watching Cirque du Soleil’s production of Varekai. The organization which was formed in a small village in Montreal, Canada more than three decades ago has 19 different shows touring worldwide. Each show is totally unique and a tour usually lasts for about two years. Varekai has 45 production and support staff along with 50 performers who travel along with 18 tractor trailers.
