Extra, Extra, Read all about it...Newsies Takes MSMT Stage By Storm!

Review by Charles Crosby and Photos by Roger S. Duncan - Maine State Music Theatre (MSMT) presented the last show of their best selling season in their history with the New England Regional Premier of the all-singing, all-dancing, high-energy show, NEWSIES on Thursday, August 10. MSMT is fortunate to have the Executive Artistic Director of the Fulton Theatre who has also choreographed more than 300 shows, Marc Robin, at the helm of this musical. The creative Director/Choreographer has outdone himself this time with this fast paced high energy musical. The dancing and gymnastics was acknowledged by the audience several times with thunderous applause throughout the performance, the likes of which I have not seen on this stage since SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS in 2014.

GREASE May Be The Word - But Spectacular is the Musical

Review by Charles Crosby Photos by Roger S. Duncan GREASE, the third show of the 2017 Maine State Music Theatre (MSMT) season opened on Thursday, July 20 and it was like going to my first sock hop! The musical book, music, and lyrics of GREASE by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey is well known to musical theatergoers with its 3,388 Broadway performances and then John Travolta and Olivia Newton John helped make it a mega-successful motion picture in 1978. ...

MSMT's Guys and Dolls Is No Roll of the Dice...it is The Real Deal!

Review by Charles Crosby Photos by Roger S. Duncan Photos by Roger S. Duncan Following Maine State Music Theatre's (MSMT) best selling opening season show, Always...Patsy Cline, is Frank Loesser's celebrated musical comedy about rolling the dice and falling in love, Guys and Dolls. This iconic musical was the second show produced by MSMT's founder, Victoria Crandall in 1959 and is the fifth time it is performed on the Pickard Theatre stage, most recently in 2001. Director/Choreographer D.J. Salisbury who is making his MSMT debut with this production has done a wonderful job with Guys and Dolls. There is a lot happening since there is song, dance, sets, all the production elements and of course the timing! He has certainly hit a grand slam with his first production here. He has a wealth of experience from his directing and choreography for many theaters nationwide and television shows and is also a writer/lyricist. MSMT must feel lucky to have him for this show. ...
