Spring is in the air and art is everywhere! The Mix is happy to announce the opening of their new show featuring work by Topsham artist Natasha Kempers-Cullen. The Mix, located at 53 Maine Street in Brunswick, will host an artist reception on Friday, May 12 from 5:30-7:30pm. The public is welcome to come and view the artwork, listen to live music and sample delicious appetizers by Phia’s Catering.

“We are jumpstarting 2nd Friday Artwalk,” says The Mix owner, Leslie Beattie. “My goal is to bring local art to Maine Street and to feature artists that may not be in the larger galleries. Having Natasha’s work in the store is such an honor. She’s a nationally known artist and teacher, one whom I have admired for years.”

Along with monthly art exhibits, The Mix offers workshops given by the “artist of the month.” Natasha’s workshop will be held on Saturday, June 3rd at her studio located in Topsham. The workshop is $40 and will run from 10am-4pm (students are asked to BYO lunch). The workshop title is “Inspiration Via Paper Collage.” For more information and to register for the workshop, please visit the class section of mixartsupplies.com.

“I continue to teach, mostly in my own home studio. I love teaching in my studio because all of my “stuff” is right here. And students can experience working in an artist’s studio and make use of my vast collection of art books and materials,” states Natasha.

Natasha has devoted her time to creating art quilts, collage works, and mixed media environments since 1987, after sixteen years as an art teacher in the public schools. Her work has appeared in many international juried exhibitions, including Quilted Constructions: the Spirit of Design (at the American Folk Art Museum, NYC), Quilt National, Visions: Quilt San Diego, The Artist As Quiltmaker, and Art Quilts at the Sedgwick. She has also shown works in a number of invitational exhibitions throughout the USA and overseas, including Full Deck Art Quilts and Women of Taste: Artists and Chefs Collaborative. Her commissioned work includes both private and public projects, notably several One Percent for Art commissions in Maine.
