About Me

So, Charlie has been asking me to write a column about food or to review restaurants for about two years now and I have been reluctant. Why?? Did I think I could not come up with articles to write about in the category of food? Well, that’s ridiculous. I guess I was not sure on what to call it or what exactly to write about. Do I just review restaurants, do I write about food in general, do I just have a column with recipes in it each month?  Well, I was asked to review a new cookbook that is out from the owners of the J. & E. Riggin Schooner in Rockland and I took the plunge. I decided my monthly column will vary and can be about all types of articles on food, cookbooks, restaurants, farmer’s markets, cooking, gardening and anything in general about my favorite subject “Food”!  To give you a little insight on why Charlie asked me to write about food, it is because I am a self-proclaimed “FOODIE”. What is a foodie you may be asking? Well, I know I am always interested in cooking and trying out new food, seeking new restaurants, looking up nutritious food items, and basically always thinking about food. However, how does Wikipedia define a Foodie? Wikipedia, which claims to be the biggest multilingual free-content encyclopedia on the internet describes a foodie (a.k.a. foody) as a person who has an ardent or refined interest in food; a gourmet. Further, a foodie seeks new food experiences as a hobby rather than simply eating out for convenience or hunger. It also states that while gourmet and epicure can be used as synonyms, they have fallen out of favor and bring to mind a stodgy or snobbish attitude. I agree, food should not be snobby or intimidating. If there is something on the menu I have never heard of, I usually ask the server about it and many times I will give it a try. Life is about experiences and a new food is another great way to experience life’s little pleasures. Oh yeah and yes, I watch the Food Network too!
